“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” – Anonymous
The purpose of the traveler of the week is to inspire the black population to look beyond what the eye can see. People who never leave the United States will never see the world for the past, for the present, or for the future. Pictures from each traveler are different from the last, some places may be the same but will always be interpreted differently. Keturah Smith was fortunate to travel to London, Spain, and Italy. All of these locations are beautiful and make me want to go back! Take a look at what Keturah captured and try to see through Keturah’s looking glass.
Everyone knows travel comes with new foods. “Almost any raw seafood you can think of was available and delicious in Spain and Italy.” Says Keturah. While in Madrid she was able to try Churros and Chocolate at the original Churro factory!! How cool and tasty is that?! Whereas in Barcelona, homemade Chickpea and Spinach soup was surprisingly amazing (don’t knock it till you try it). And last but not least, the TORTILLA! Lol this was not your typical tortilla in the U.S. This was a special authentic tortilla that favored a potato pie. This was both “delicious and light”
“The craziest thing I did was jump off a cliff into the Mediterranean Sea in Italy.”
When asked what Keturah took away from her experiences she replied. “Don't be afraid! I learned to try new things (I had to as an incredibly picky eater). I also learned to do the unknown, like take hikes up mountains or jump off of cliffs into the Mediterranean Sea! I learned to be open to all types of people and their stories. Traveling with strangers taught me a lot about other humans, and myself. I enjoyed taking in the little things and appreciating sites more than usual. I can't think of a day that I traveled when a building or wall or simple picturesque balcony didn't take my breath away. All in all, I loved traveling and this summer made me fall in love with the world and all it has to offer. I'm itching to get back out :)”
“The Almafi Coast in Italy, hands down the best”
“Don’t be afraid! I learned to try new things ”
Recommendations for young/black travelers: "Don't be afraid to just get up and go. I was the most spontaneous I'd ever been this summer and it was totally worth it".
Keturah is the epitome of #blackgirlstraveltoo. Travel! Be Spontaneous. L I V E! Thanks Keturah for being my traveler of the week.
