I had the pleasure of meeting and befriending the oh so beautiful Brhan Eskinder my freshman year at Spelman College. This beautiful soul reached out to me, which led to a beautiful friendship. Through thick and thin she will always be my soul-sista! I know Brhan will go on to do great things in this crazy world, I'm glad traveling is one of them! Brhan was fortunate to travel to Barcelona, Spain, and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Check out Brhan’s story below.
“my favorite location was Amsterdam”
When asked about her experience she responded "Barcelona was truly an eye-opening experience for me. t first I had a hard time adjusting to some of their customs and cultural norms, but I really had to take the time out to be patient and understanding. The beauty of traveling is that everything is so different, so why was I impatient when things were not the same as I was normally accustomed to? Exploring the world has made me a better person because it caused me to humble myself and see what unique perspectives the world has to offer. I don't have to necessarily like any of them, but it is my responsibility to respect and honor the places I am visiting".
In a world of crazy mystery foods, Brhan was able to experience culture with the element of taste. "I have not tried anything too crazy but I did go to an awesome farmer's market in Barcelona where they had the biggest and craziest stuffed crepes. They filled them with all types of ingredients; some had fruit, chocolate, and sweets while others had more risky items like salmon and potatoes. Either way, they were so delicious".
“I had a lot of cool experiences while I was out of the country, but the most fun I had was staying out until the sun came up partying with the locals. The notion of ‘clubbing’ in Spain is very different then how it is perceived here in the States. Partying in Barcelona was purely for fun! It did not matter what you were wearing, how your hair looked, or even if you came by yourself. All that mattered was you dancing your heart out”
Traveling the world not only opens your eyes but stimulates your mind. Brhan had this to say to future travelers "The world is a very different place with very different views. Do not be close-minded because something does not make sense to you. Just try it out and look for the positive in every situation".
Thank you so much for sharing your story! I can't wait to see you at homecoming!!
