SO my trip to Bali is a complicated one.
The trip started off perfect. I was ready to leave Bangkok and ready for the next country. We arrived at the airport and our Airbnb host arranged for transportation to her house. A man holding a sign reading "Gabrielle". He grabs Gabrielle’s bag and another man from the airport grabs mine. We walk 0.1 mi and come to the van. The man from the airport put his hand out asking for money. Confused at what was going on, I asked why he wanted a tip if he carried one of my bags and we walked 4.5 steps. I refused to tip because he wasn't our driver, and he didn’t help with our luggage.
We finally arrived at our Airbnb. It was super sweet. It was an open house with a small pool. 2 bed 2 bath. We desperately needed an upgrade from Bangkok and we got one. The host allowed us to use her motor scooter to go around town. Although this sounds convenient it turned out to be a burden. I drove to the beach while Gabrielle sat behind as my passenger. While driving, I was still trying to figure out how to navigate through traffic, eventually I got the hang of it. We zipped between cars and worked our way to the beach. You can see our wonderful beach pictures above. Afterward we decided we to stop at the local grocer and head home. Since we did not buy an international plan our phones didn't have service. Luckily I found out about an app called OsmandMaps. This handy app allows you to have navigate without data!!! We were using this app to get home we hit 4/5 dead ends. We couldn't remember which street the house was on. We asked around no one knew what street it was. Eventually, we got back with the help of a stranger who took us another 45 minutes around the city. MY ARMS WERE TIRED! The next day we wanted to head into town to do some shopping and sight-seeing. Gabrielle and I swapped so she would do the driving this time. She practiced in the alley and was ready to take off. En route back from our destination we ran into a road block, one side of the street had been closed for construction. This was the ONLY road that could take us home. We were forced to turn and do an alternate route. Once we realized we couldn't find an alternate route, we decided to turn around and explain to the construction workers that this was our only way back. While making our U-turn, we ran off road and fell off the bike. We got up, dusted ourselves off, and noticed blood pouring from my left leg. I had a huge gash from the fall. Some lovely business owners from the store across the street noticed us and offered help. They tried to stop the bleeding and while doing so I started to slowly black out. When I noticed, my vision was getting darker I tried to stop it. I drunk a glass of water, took deep breathes in and out until my vision came back. The gash looked deep and I thought I better get some stitches to avoid infection. The workers drove Gabrielle and I up the street to the local doctor’s office. I'm not gonna lie, it looked pretty sketchy. Like a trustworthy sketchy lol. The doctor took me in right away, gave me 6-7 stitches and gave me a note to give to the travel insurance. It was only about $120 which was good. I could only imagine how much an emergency visit to the doctor/ ER would be in the U.S.
MOUNT BATUR
The next day we hiked the almighty Mount Batur. Mount Batur is a huge tourist attraction. Most people hike to the top as early as 3 a.m. to see the beautiful sunrise. That was our plan...until it rained. We hiked about 1 30mins through rain, sweat, and tears (mines of course). We had poncho's on but they were weak. If we weren't getting wet by the rain, we were drenching ourselves with our sweat. I've never in my life sweated so much. It was kind of unbearable. But once we reached the top it felt like success. At the top, it was still raining and now colder than before. We waited 2 hours for the sun, instead it didn't rise like anticipated but instead casted a heavy fog. We could not see anything, no sun, no view, nothing.
On our trip down from the mountain we ran into some cute mountain monkeys. They were said to be looking for some food. Check out my video below.
We ended our Journey with a sunset at Tanah Lot. The pictures just don't do it justice, it was indeed AMAZING.
