CALIFORNIA DREAMING
My adventures in Cali were short and to the point. I went there for one reason; determined nothing would stop nor distract me. In my previous trip last summer I auditioned for a national known dance agency. Trey (my boyfriend) came along with me and supported me from when I stepped off the plane till we stepped on. The plan was simple, be great, do my best, and leave it all on the floor. If I didn't make it to the final cut I would chalk it as a learning experience. After being surrounded my 250+ girls I was unfortunately not called to stay for the dance routine and had to leave the studio.
This made me sad and angry, and all of the above. I was discouraged. I was not strong nor wealthy enough to travel back out there to audition again with personal revisions.
Recently I thought to myself how much I wanted to avoid the 9-5 regular degular job. I hate cubicles, I hate office small talk, and I hate being in places without windows. I thought back to my chances of making dance a profession. Is it possible?
Three weeks before I saw an audition flyer online for another top agency. I thought maybe this was a sign of some sort. Could this be my calling? I quickly searched plane tickets and began digging for discount prices. Since I'm traveling I have travel credit cards in turn I have travel points. I was lucky enough and flew for 20,000 points + $11.95. WHOO HOO!
In the airport I patiently waited for my plane to arrive so we could board. I was messing around with my computer when a man asked to sit next to me. He began to make small talk (which I hate in some cases), he asked if I knew how to work something on his MacBook, I, being annoyed with computer questions, helped and quickly became busy so he wouldn’t bother me anymore.
We began to talk and I finally opened up. He was a very nice person. He told me how he was visiting his son in Los Angeles, whom he flies 9 times a year to see. He talked about his past; he once was a mechanical engineer who had been offered a job as a plane computer engineer operator. Basically pushing buttons and stuff. He said something told him to dismiss it and soon to find out the job replaced humans with computers. Lol He said he made a good choice and worked for GE as an engine engineer.
We finally boarded the plane and split up. He sat up in the economy plus section while I lingered in regular degular economy. I instantly fell fast asleep. Once I woke I saw him look back and walk to my aisle. He told me no one was sitting next to him and to come up. I was pretty skeptical at this point. I mean I don't know this man, but he did have a nice seat. I went up there and we talked again, this time about his culture, and what his name meant. He wrote his name on the last page of the book I was attempting to read. I thought it was pretty cool.
Finally we arrived in LA and he wished me luck in my ventures. Though I was almost 3 hours early I decided to Lyft to the dance studio and wander up and down Melrose Ave.
The audition finally started and I was first in line ready. I was given the number "195". I was amped and ready. There were 400+ people at this audition, which was even crazier than my last. In the end I made it to the final round, was recorded and told they would call if they liked me. No time frame. The following Monday I received a call from a California Area code. It was them! They wanted me to come back to their office in Cali to sign me.
I have signed with them and will start my dream profession June 28th. Stay tuned for my cross-country trip to Cali, my graduation trip to Costa Rica, and my trip to Thailand & Bali with my freshman year roomie!
